A Study of Knowledge of Temporomandibular Disorders, Symptoms and Stress according to the Usual Practice Experience

Abstract

|
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the habits everyday experience and the knowledge of TMD symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and to determine the extent of stress.
Methods: A survey was conducted from May 4 through May 13, 2013, by using structured, self-administered questionnaires. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS.
Results: Have a habit of sticking your chin forward the TMD knowledge scores were lower in the group. Have a habit of hitting the teeth the TMD symptom scores were lower in the group. Have a habit of hitting the teeth the TMD stress scores were lower in the group. TMD knowledge shows positive correlation with usual habit (r = .153), stress (r = .157). TMD symptom shows positive correlation with usual habit (r = .340), stress (r = .441). Usual habit shows positive correlation with stress (r = .327).
Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that TMD related prevention programs need to be done systematically.
